Silk screen printing: the price is per colour
In silk screen printing every colour is its own screen - how to count the colours in your design, and when white or black counts too.

In silk screen printing every colour of your design is printed with its own screen, one after the other. So the price depends on how many colours your design has: each colour is one more screen to set up and one more layer to print. (DTF printing is different: any number of colours costs the same.)
How to count the colours
- Count the ink colours you see: a logo of blue, purple and black is 3 colours.
- A white part on a black shirt, or a black part on a white shirt, is printed too - so it counts as a colour.
- The same logo printed on both a black and a white shirt, with white and black parts, is a 4 colour print.
- White on a white shirt or black on a black shirt also needs printing to show - that makes it 5 colours.
The screens
Each colour needs its own screen, and each screen has a one-time setup cost. We keep your screens for a year, so a reorder of the same print within a year has no setup cost again.
Photos and gradients
Photos and colour gradients can also be silk screen printed, with fine dots:
- 4 colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black): photo quality on white shirts, or on a coloured shirt where the shirt colour shows through.
- 5 colours (the same plus a white base): photo quality on any shirt colour.
For a design with many colours, or a small number of shirts, DTF printing is often the cheaper way.
